I can already tell that by the end of my mission I will have gained many important skills. The most important of which are playing soccer and throwing a football. Very important skills. Oh, and I guess there's also learning to rely on the Spirit, loving people, learning to teach, spanish, and many many many more.
My new area: Tulancingo 2! Tulancingo's claim to fame: the luchador "El Santo" was born here. They also produce cheese. My companion is Hna Tuz. She is from Merida, Yucatan and is fresh from the MTC. She's a convert and has only been a member 1 year and 8 months. We are taking over the area from the Elders. It's pretty interesting, we've gotten lost every day. They left us a few really good investigators though so I'm grateful for that. My zone in Valle de Mezquital was all Hermanas except for our zone and district leaders. In this zone, however, we are the only Hermanas. Today hanging out playing soccer with the Elders I realized how very different this zone will be...
We have been working hard to find new people to teach. Hna Tuz has a pretty cool story about our 1 new investigator- she really followed the Spirit on that one. It's been hard though, the people are much less willing to give out their address here. Yesterday, however, we were riding in the micro and I knew I had to talk to someone so I glanced around but the only person within talking distance was a young man. In general, I try to avoid contacting young men about my age because I've had too many try to use the classic pick-up line "you guys teach about God, right?" and I don't like dealing with that. But I started feeling like I needed to say something so I was thinking about what I could say when I noticed he was on the verge of tears. Then I knew I couldn't just sit there but I REALLY had no idea what to say, the only words that came to mind were: "Hola, soy la Hna DeFranco. Somos misioneras de La Iglesia de Jesucristo do los Santos de los Últimos Días. Traemos un mensaje muy especial. ¿Podemos compartirlo con usted?" He looked pretty suprised, and not a little confused, but nodded yes. We have an appointment this week and I pray we can find him.
Tomorrow I hit 6 months since I started the mission! 1/3 of the way through.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, my SD card is acting up and I cant find a usb port or slot for a memory card on this computer anyway... I've got some great pictures though, just so ya know.
Love,
Hna DeFranco
