Apology: I'm sorry it's taken so long for an update. In my defense, I didn't just forget about these posts. Instead, I've been saving them until the time Weebly got fixed. Somehow Weebly got a glitch and it locked me out of this blog. Incredibly frustrating. So they just got it fixed and I will post all the ones we've missed and it should be regular again.
Saturday we were looking for a less active member named Perla. We knocked on her gate and very tall strapling young man came out. We asked him if Perla was home (there are 5 or so houses all together behind that one gate) and he told us no. We started to talk with him and introduced ourselves and asked his name. ¨Moroni¨ he answered. When we had recovered from the shock we asked if we was a member of the church. ¨No¨ ¨You were never baptised?" I asked, just to be sure. Yes, but in the Catholic church. He had never heard of The Book of Mormon and did not know what his name meant. Turns out his dad was a member but had died when Moroni was 4. He was pretty interested in learning more. It was a pretty awesome expierence to tell him about his namesake.
The work continues to progress in Progreso. We've found some fantastic new families and lost some wonderful people. It is really heartbreaking when someone refuses to accept the one thing that can bring true joy, not only now, but forever. We actually had one bus driver refuse to let us talk because he "doesn't like that kind of thing" because we try to "change people." Lies, we can't change anyone, only they can decide to change. My companion told him we were going to talk with everyone one by one anyway because some people do want to hear. Insipired by Elder Esteves and Hna Garcia (one of our Hermanas in Tlahue that I did divisions with), I gave my first lesson in a bus. A year ago I would have said NO flat out to doing something like that. I guess I am changing 😊
Love,
