Apparently all my attemps at blending in as a native have failed. Guera = white girl. Everytime someone calls me that on the street I just turn to my companions and say "Soy Mexicana." On one occasion a little girl asked me "How come you don't talk like us?" So apparently my attempts to sound like a native have also been unsuccessful. It's a great conversation starter though! My bad Spanish also helps investigators feel slightly more comfortable because it gives us something to laugh at and bond over 😊
Life is good here in Actopan. It is a very interesting dynamic to work in a trio, but we're making it work pretty well. It's been good for me to talk more.
Here's some exciting news, the non-member mother of a missionary serving from the Actopan Ward has gained a testimony of the Book of Mormon and is going to be baptised!!! We are so excited for her and I know her daughter will be walking on clouds!
And now, a glimpse into a lesson with Hermano Oscar;
Hna Tellez: How does it make you feel to know you were made in the image and likeness of God?
Hno Oscar: God must be very guapo. (handsome)
And that's why I love teaching him. 😊 He then gave a beautiful and thoughtful answer about how our life is a gift and our bodies are sacred and we need to care for them.
I love being here and seeing people's lives change for the better. I know the Gospel really does make people happier and helps families be more united. This work isn't easy. There are times when I get really frustrated and stressed. All that is more than made up for though when I get to hear someone call upon their Father in Heaven for perhaps the first time in my life. All the hard things are nothing compared to the joy I feel when I see someone I have grown to love accept the message of Christ and make covenants. The Church is true. Christ lives.
Love,
Hermana DeFranco
hna Schaumkel and Hna Diaz had a double baptism this week! These two men have incredible testimonies.
