Sister Guzmán and I have been looking and praying and working to find a family to teach and they came when we least expected it. We contacted José Luis and Hector (9) on the street one day and set up an appointment to visit them. Honestly, it was a really weird lesson. José Luis refused to comment more than to say that he wanted his sons to learn about a lot of different religions and that as far as he was concered, God was a greater force. We taught Aaron (10) and Hector and they were very receptive (they are the ones who asked why we were wearing such ugly shoes, thanks kids). We invited them to Gloria´s baptism and they came and the next sunday they came to church for the first time. The boys have loved primary since the first day and Hector tells us that he feels much more peaceful inside since they´ve started learning about the gospel. José Luis and Marian are very happy, they´ve always been the weird ones for not smoking or drinking and basically being like everyone else. Their marriage, which had taken a dive is now much happier, like night and day they tell us. Whe we asked about the Book of Mormon José Luis told us that he didn´t have a doubt that it was true. The spirit was incredibly strong in their baptism service and they are very happy :)
Lidus is doing much better. They offered her a house in a pueblo outside of Pachuca but she doesn´t want to go because she doesn´t want to seperate from the church. Also, she knows she´ll be exposed to a lot of bad influences from family and former friends there. It looks like we´ve found a house here that she´ll rent since the house where she is at right now is down right gross and the neighbor is pretty rude. She´s decided to pay rent here instead of going over there because she knows how important the gospel is for her and her son. Anyway, spiritually she is doing well. She´s reading the conference Liahona, she loved President Eyring´s talk from Conference on saturday, she enjoyed the baptismal service, she even payed her tithing! She thanked us profoundly for teaching her about fasting, she knows it is a blessing, not a burden. Oh that we can all understand like she does!
The gospel is the Pearl of Grand Price, it is worth every sacrifice and every change. Hold tight, stay on the boat, and keep going :)
I love you all!
Love,
Hermana DeFranco
